Vertical Paper takes #3 in the World!
The PBRPRPSCLCS would like to congratulate City League player Vertical Paper (pictured below) for placing #3 at the 2006 RPS International World Championships (www.worldrps.com). VP was an almost unstoppable force (well, except for that one guy) who took the champ right down to the final throw. Congratulations are also in order to the Saint (who was a celebrity ref at the City League Championships) for taking 2nd place!

Philadelphia Rock Paper Scissors Player Wins Bronze Medal at 2006 International World Championships
|
PHILADELPHIA, November 14, 2006 –The Pabst Blue Ribbon Philadelphia Rock Paper Scissors (RPS) City League Championship Series (www.rpscityleague.com) Media Relations and Announcement Division is pleased to announce that Philadelphia player and resident Tom Smith (who competes under the name Vertical Paper) has brought the bronze medal back to Philadelphia from the 2006 RPS International World Championships, which took place in Toronto this past weekend. Vertical Paper outplayed over 500 competitors on his way to laying claim to being the 3rd best RPS player in the World. Vertical Paper competes as part of the Majestic 12, one of the largest and most feared RPS teams in the city.
Vertical Paper, who will head to Japan for five months in January to begin intensive training for next year’s Championships, becomes one of only five Americans to ever place in the top 3 during the five-year history of an event typically dominated by Canadians. When asked why Americans are starting to become more of a factor, the bronze medalist replied: “I think that Americans are just now beginning to have the facilities to fully train for the Championship event. With new World RPS Society sanctioned leagues and events serving as a training ground throughout the US, it’s giving us the facilities we need to climb to new heights in this sport. It appears that the Canadian stranglehold on the World Championships is finally a thing of the past, as none even placed in the top 3. Thank goodness”.
Said PBR Philadelphia RPS City League Commissioner and well known Philadelphia pro player C. Urbanus: “This is the very reason that the Philadelphia City League was formed. To find players like Vertical Paper, who is part of the new breed of RPS player. In his last three major tournaments he has placed no lower than the final 8. When all is said and done, he may very well be viewed as the second greatest player to ever come out of Philadelphia. The rest of the country and world continue to dread going up against players from the City of Brotherly Love, and for good reason”.
The RPS International World Championship is the only tournament fully run by the World RPS Society (http://www.worldrps.com/), which is the international governing body of competitive Rock Paper Scissors.
