What’s Up With Street RPS?
Lots of people have been e-mailing PBRPRPSCLCS HQ with this question, and rightfully so.
Here are a few questions we’ve received:
“I always thought that the World RPS Society was against Street RPS. What’s up with that?”
“I’ve always told my kids to stay away from Street RPS and now you guys are promoting it as something that is OK. You’re totally contradicting me. What’s up that?”
“I recently went to a lecture featuring International World Championship Head Ref Brad Fox and he talked about how Street RPS is for bad people. Now you guys are saying it’s allright for decent people like me to take part in. What’s up with that?”
We here at the PBRPRPSCLCS are opposed to conventional Street RPS which includes playing for things that have little or no place in this game of honor (money, drugs, women, etc.), with little or no adherence to proper rules (a seven prime shoot?!?), and even the inclusion of throws that are not Rock Paper or Scissors (did someone say Dynamite?).
Despite a strong distaste for the Street RPS described above, we do offer a version that is a bit more palatable and in the spirit of the game. The rules to the nightly Street RPS tournaments are as follows:
1. Every competitor at every event will be given 5 Street RPS bucks when they register. A sample is provided below:

2. Any competitor may challenge any other competitor to a game of RPS for any amount of Street RPS bucks that is agreed upon by the competitors.
3. The rules for the match may follow any guidelines agreed upon at the outset of the challenge from one competitor to another. While we would advocate normal tournament rules, this is left to the discretion of the competitors in question.
4. Before the final match of the nightly event, all Street RPS bucks will be collected by the presiding official. When you hear the announcement to turn in your Street RPS bucks, you must bring them to the official for tallying.
5. The competitor who has the most Street RPS bucks will be awarded a gift certificate to the venue holding the event, as well as 2 extra points towards their City League season totals.
