Competitor #10 (AKA Silly Putty) Nearly Wins $500 and a Trip to the World Champs at the 2010 Hat City Kitchen Tournament!

Philadelphia was well represented at Hat City Kitchen in Orange, NJ for their 1st ever Rock Paper Scissors tournament, which was Sanctioned by the World RPS Society.  Of course, the winner of a Sanctioned Event gets travel and lodging for the World Championships in Toronto as well as the grand prize ($500 at Hat City Kitchen).  So this is no small potatos.

It went pretty well for Philly as competitor 10 (Silly Putty) and 123 (B-Pac) both made it into the final 4.  But competitor 117 (I think his name is Mike) was on fire all day and took them both out (as well as at least one other Philadelphia player in the final eight) to crush, cover and cut up Philadelphia’s dream of making the people in New Jersey mad by driving up there and winning their tournament.

Silly Putty nearly pulled it off as she was down early and then came back to force a 5th set, which was eventually tied and came down to the final throw but Silly Putty came up just a little short.  But it wasn’t too bad, as Silly Putty still collected $250 and B-Pac came in 3rd to the tune of $200.  Also, C. Urbanus was presented with an award (more on that in a different post)!

From the “I meant to do that but never did yet” file, there was a Junior RPS-ers tournament outside before the main event.  It was a spirited event, with sloppier than usual officiating at points but overall a considerable success.  The winners are over to the left and the Champ (with the blue ribbon in the middle) was Gerry, who was visiting from Puerto Rico and is keen on getting some tournaments started down there.  He was also the only player pre-tournament to discuss his firm belief in the soundness of his strategies, which proved to be true.
