RUMOR: World RPS Society Sanctioned Tournament Coming up in NJ!
It’s been awhile since the Philly Rock Paper Scissors scene had a sanctioned tournament within driving distance, but word on the street is that there may just be one going down in Northern NJ on July 24th.
Many of you may be wondering what the difference between a Sanctioned and Endorsed (such as the PBRPRPSCLCS) event is. It’s pretty huge. If you win a Sanctioned event, in addition to the prize money, the winner will be seeded into the top 64 at the World Championship in Toronto. If you were to receive this advanced seeding, then in order to become the World Champion of Rock Paper Scissors you would need to win only 6 matches (same as Baconshark at the 2010 City League Championship) instead of the 9 that all non-seeded players will have to win to claim the title.
Rumor has it you’ll also see some familiar refs if this rumor is indeed true. More on this news as it comes.

I will add that the winner of a World RPS Society sanctioned event also receives free “transportation and accommodation” to the Yahoo! World RPS Championship in Toronto. So, win the tourney and not only will you place in the top 64, you’ll also receive a free round trip ticket to Toronto and a hotel room for your stay. This is simply too good a deal to pass up. All East Coast players encouraged to attend? That is, if the rumors are true…
“free transport and accommodation”……
Music to my ears. I’m getting interested.
Though last time i travelled from Australia to Philly I wasn’t even allowed to throw down.
( Interestingly, I invited New Zealander martinburley to the Australian Championships last week. He attended and was banned from competing along similar lines, (well, not similar, he would never have won it. We just wanted to stick it to him. ) ).
If this alleged tournament was to proceed, would it be an open format, a “truly” open format?
That is, if the rumors are true….
