Le Tigre, team captain of the Paper Cut Posse, won his 2nd tournament of the 2008 Pabst Blue Ribbon Philadelphia Rock Paper Scissors City League season at the final 2008 event at the Khyber. He once again defeated reigning City League Champ Baconshark in the finals but instead of winning on the last throw of the last set like last time, this one was a 3-0 match win that Le Tigre said was ”surprising, but not so surprising”. As it is Double Points Week, Le Tigre has catapulted into 3rd place with a victory – tying up PJ Rhymeswithsausage at 56 but with a better power ranking. Le Tigre has now won 25% of the tournaments he has played in since the March off-season event and ranks #1 in the league among those who have played more than 20 matches this year with a win percentage of 69.23%.

Dance Rock Saskatchewan, former co-record holder for championship titles in a season, showed everyone why by dominating the Street RPS action on the night and getting himself an extra 4 points as well as putting himself in the running for the season end street prize. He defeated PJ Rhymeswithsausage by a score of 137-58, which is the highest amount turned in by a single competitor at any event this season.

The PBRPRPSCLCS somehow forgot to mention that it was Strawberry Appreciation night at the Khyber (for some reason), where all competitors were treated to strawberry cake courtesy of El Toro Papaya and all the Mr. Strawberry they could handle courtesy of Mr. Strawberry himself!

Loomer (above, eating hoag and drinking Pabst Blue Ribbon), of the Majestic 12, set the record for tournament wins in a season by claiming his 4th win so far in 2008. The former record was 3, held by both Female Ninja Whore and Dance Rock Saskatchewan. He defeating reigning City League Champ Baconshark in the finals in a nail-biter of a match that ended on the final throw of a 5 match set when Loomers Rock dulled the Champ’s Scissors. A few more things about Loomer: he currently has a season record of 26-10 (72%) and currently has 66 points with less than 3 weeks remaining so he also has the chance of breaking the record for most points in a season, which El Toro Papaya set last year with 86.

PJ Rhymeswithsausage of Team David Bowie’s Package took the Street tourney on the night with a final count of 71 with 2 competitors tied for 2nd at 38. There were then rumors swirling of some sort of team merger that could be taking place to attempt to threaten the league-leading Majestic 12.

Once, Twice Three Times a Paper (far left) of the Foes of Strawbanus (above – roughing up Mr. Strawberry) got what his teammate termed “his one victory of the season” [note - that's one more victory than the rest of the FoS team combined this season] last night at the Khyber. Once Twice Three Times a Paper had previously only ever defeated reigning Champion Baconshark in his other 2 career victories, but David Bowie’s Package teammate PJ Rhymeswithsausage filled in quite well at losing in the finals to OTTaP for the Champ and went down in a quick and easy 3-0 Championship match. This defeat kept PJ Rhymeswithsausage from claiming his 2nd tournament win this season.

Mr. Strawberry has been showing up quite a bit recently for a guy who is living in Delaware, but it’s paying off for both him and Team Feed the Pony. He won the street match by a landslide and has even taken a $4 lead in the season street over teammate Posthumyn. He then broke free from his Foes (below) and then possibly stepped on Master Fister’s face, which didn’t stop Master Fister from rapping Lisa Loeb at the karaoke downstairs afterwards.

It was like old times (or, well, maybe more like 2007) as Team Feed the Pony swept the competition at the Khyber.

El Toro Papaya (above, wearing Next American City prize t-shirt) was on a cold streak so far this season as he prepared for a half-marathon (which does not include Pabst Blue Ribbon). With that in the books as of this past weekend, El Toro returned to his usual Rock Paper Scissors training regiment (which includes Pabst Blue Ribbon) and came out like the guy who scored the most points last season. He notched a hard fought victory over 2007 Champion Baconshark in the finals in a match that was back and forth throughout, with the winning throw coming from El Toro in the 5th set tied up at 1 apiece. It may have been the most intense match of the season, with perhaps the exception of the one in the final 8 between Zombie Llama and Kennedy which was insane. This was the first victory of the season for a depleted team Feed the Pony.

Mr. Strawberry (above in Phillies shirt) came in 1st place in the street RPS tournament. He beat Dance Rock Saskatchewan by a pretty sizeable margin of 92-65. Mr. Strawberry was heard to say to his teammates as the announcement was made “wait, I didn’t come in second place?”.

PJ Rhymeswithsausage (above, bearded) of Team David Bowies Package (above) took down Rockstar Mania (below – only female in picture) in the finals at the Khyber to kick off week 3 of the 2008 season. PJ Rhymeswithsausage overcame an early 1 match deficit to cruise to the Championship by a 3 – 1 match count. PJ and the rest of the Package will be over at the International House for the screening of their submission to the 48 Hour Film Festival tonight. So if you have a chance to hit it up before the competition tonight, the details are here and make sure to vote for the Meatball Posse.

In other news, the Pacifist made Pabst Blue Ribbon Philadelphia Rock Paper Scissors City League History, becoming the first player ever to be disqualified for an illegal throw. His throw of dynamite in round 1 was immediately recognized by referee Urbanus for what it is – although the Pacifist claimed it was just a misthrown Scissors. Since there are no rules governing this occurance other than disqualification, the PBRPRPSCLCS Disciplinary Committee can take no further action against the Pacifist.

Master Fister of the Foes of Strawbanus (above – upside down, for some reason) won the Street tourney on the night by a count of 59-41 over El Toro Papaya, who is off to a cold start to his 2008 season. The Foes of Strawbanus then joined both their foes (Strawberry and Urbanus, duh) for karaoke on the first floor of the khyber (every Monday while RPS is upstairs) where the first Girls on Film of the 2008 season was performed.

Billy Shears of the Majestic 12 defeated The Fighting Mongooses of the Majestic 12 in a tight final match at what was arguably one of the weirdest nights of Rock Paper Scissors ever on Monday at the Khyber. After carrying his team to victory, his team (and Posthumyn) carried Billy Shears away (and apparently touched him strangely) to celebrate their 2nd victory of the year with a refreshing Pabst Blue Ribbon. The MJ-12 have continued their strong start to 2008 and their top 4 players on the night (those are the only ones that count for the team standings) scored an amazing 21 points, only 3 points short of the highest team score possible.

Posthumyn of Team Feed the Pony continued her early-season Street RPS dominance at the Khyber, winning for the 2nd week in a row in a blowout. Word on the street, or should I say rumor has it, is that there may be a possible split on Team FtP. The way Philadelphia RPS insiders hear it is that one of the members is considering dropping out and forming a new, all female team. That being said, if you are a female player looking for a team, you may want to try and search out this unknown member who may or may not lead the League in Street money turned in so far this season.

Angie C. rolled into the Khyber last night with Backwoods Payback and rolled out the champion of the very first 2008 Pabst Blue Ribbon Philadelphia Rock Paper Scissors City League event. She took down the Paper Tiger in a match that came down the last throw in a series that was tied up at two sets apiece, which was arguably so far the most exciting match of the 2008 season. Paper Tiger had her down early, but Angie C. roared back at him to take the title. Angie C. swears to return to the Khyber to defend her title, especially since the Khyber didn’t have a gift certificate on hand for her last night. Oh, and she really likes Rock Paper Scissors.

Posthumyn (the only member of Team Feed the Pony present) was the street RPS winner on the night – winning the title by a dominating score of 112 – 29 – 5. She now has a good start towards the season Street RPS Prize and earned her and her team an extra 2 points.

The Pacifist once again conquered all at the Khyber on Monday, making only the second time this season that there have been repeat Champions at the same venue two weeks in a row. The prop-throwing Pacifist defeated Hurricane Juan of the Dutch Army amid a steady stream of boos from the crowd that seemed to give him more RPS power. It was the first week of double points week, which means the Pacifist now has 3 events and 29 points on the year! An impossible average of 9.7 points per appearance.

On the street, Mr. Strawberry took everyone to school as he collected his first championship of that sort on the year (he did win a regular championship at Tritone). He picked up some double points…so he got 4 just for being the king of street RPS.

Birthday girl Zoe Schlesinger did quite well, making it all the way to the final four before the Pacifist knocked her out. The crowd booed The Pacifist even louder than normal at that point.

I don’t care how much money they may have won in the past playing RPS. Freakin’ Midwest. I would put any player from Philadelphia up against any champ or any chump from out there.”

Once again, Down and Dirty Dan Pike (who doesn’t actually call himself that) won the Street RPS Challenge after advancing to the final 4 on the night. When asked his secret, Dan Pike replied, “I’ve just bought the Official RPS Strategy Guide by Doug and Graham Walker. The Urbanus Offense has done wonders for my street game. This last bit has nothing to do with Rock Paper Scissors, but I thought I might add that Pabst Blue Ribbon is awesomely good”.
