It’ll be a staggered tournament with four groups of eight competing every half-hour (that means it’s limited to 32 players). First come first serve for tournament registration. It’s $12 general admission and the RPS tournament will cost $3 with half the money going to the winner and the other half going to charity. Doors are at 6 and competition (for both RPS and the main event) start at 7.

After you lose (or maybe win!) you can go heckle PJ Rhymeswithsausage or just congratulate him on the newest addition to his family. Or heckle him about the newest addition to his family. Whatever you like, it’s your $12.

It was a fun and a little bit sad night of RPS, as it marked the final tournament for veteran B-Pac (who lost in the 1st round), until he decides that living in the middle of New York state is no good and returns to Philadelphia. But that’s probably still a way off. Until then, the Philly RPS scene will miss him.

The finals on the night ended up as a match between Hand Turkey and rookie player Parchment Funkadelic (at left, enjoying delicious Pabst Blue Ribbon). It was a fine match, full of many surprises (rocks still tie!) but Parchment Funkadelic went all Dr. Funkenstein on Hand Turkey and finally tore the roof off the match and returned to Chocolate City with a victory. Well done, Parchment Funkadelic! (not so well done, Hand Turkey!)

PJ Rhymeswithsausage (at right, enjoying delicious Pabst Blue Ribbon) showed up and used his gift certificate from September, and left with a new gift certificate in hand. He won the street RPS tourney once again and there really isn’t much more to say because that happens fairly frequently.

So anyway, the tourney went down on the 2nd floor of New Mako’s, which apparently used to be some weird hookah room, which was actually quite a nice little space for RPS despite it’s strange decorations and many, many hookahs. There may be something to this new strategy the Ultimate Bad Guy used to win it the month before, because she made it to the final four again (this doesn’t usually happen). But the finals came down to Dick Nasty and a new player called T-shirt. Dick Nasty took that T-Shirt to the cleaners (you wouldn’t have been able to resist that one either) in the finals and added another notch to his nightly title belt.

His teammate Hambone (he lost the Dr. in a RPS bet last season) won Street RPS to give all the prizes on the night to RPS Speedwagon, which has never happened before, I think.

But in the meantime rest assured that people did win tournaments that did actually happen (it was Paper Tiger and The Ultimate Bad Guy) just as someone will probably win a tournament this coming Tuesday (10/18/11) at Mako’s Retired Surfers Bar and Grill (3rd and South). Signup starts at 8 and competition will be around 8:45. It’s usual off-season rules. $3 entry fee. Street winner gets a special prize (that means no one knows what that prize is yet).

The Ultimate Bad Guy was using a new strategy that she told the ref about, but player-referee confidentiality doesn’t allow for this information to be disclosed publicly. Anyway, whatever the strategy was it worked really good, since she defeated Neutral Finger and took home the title for the first time in her RPS career.

For definitely not the first time in his RPS career (A few years ago he won every street RPS at every off-season tourney) PJ Rhymeswithsausage won the street RPS portion of the tournament, edging out Von Damonator 88-81 to add to his stack of unused street RPS gift certificates.

Anyway, Von Damonator (on right, celebrating the return of Dirty Dozen co-founder Twisted Scissors – last seen around here in August of 2007) made it to the finals, where he met up with maybe-she’s-part-of-David-Bowie’s-Package-and-maybe-she’s-not Squid, who psyched out her opponents all night by saying she just wanted to go home. It was a pretty good match, but Von Damonator came out on top and that gave him a victory and 8 points towards his 2011 totals. Von Damonator is in the lead for total points (that felt weird to type)!

And as far as Street RPS goes everyone should know that B-Pac The Neutral Swede (at right) almost always wins theses days. He’s turning into a real PJ Rhymeswithsausage circa 2008-2009. Although according to the sign he’s holding B-Pac the Neutral Swede loves people (specifically a few players who moved away), which is much different from Mr. Rhymeswithsausage’s style.

It was a good final, and Panty Bandit almost came back to win just like in the semi-finals, but Sweetji took the winning cake - just like she did at the off-season tournament last March. Sweetji is 2-0 in March and hasn’t recorded tournament a victory in any other month. Too bad the World Championships are in the fall! Anyway, the two Badass Mofos in the finals acted like The Legion of the Red Fist and split the prize equally, a move that the commissioner of the PBRPRPSCLCS has never been fond of (hence the quick exit from Legion of the Red Fist, despite their rather nice jackets and two world champions on the roster).

Frankie 13 (seen here in a pretty old file photo with wonderful Pabst Blue Ribbon) had already won the the Street RPS tournament (although he didn’t know that) but in the spirit of Rock Paper Scissors decided to play whoever else was at the top. That guy was Dick Nasty and they decided that, in tribute to the dearly departed Minneapolis Roshambo Hustlers, to play first to win 10 throws. It was a heck of a Full Hustle, and Frankie 13 won the prize he would have won anyway by a score of 10-9.
