The PBRPRPSCLCS will finally return to Tritone (1508 South Street) in March for the first time since the end of the 2006 season.

This will be an early one and you’ll need to be there on time if you want to compete.  Registration starts at 7 PM and competition will start at 7:30.  There’s a band at 9:30, so the tournament has to be wrapped up around 9.  Registration is $3.

Come hungry for victory and food, as Tritone will offer not only Rock Paper Scissors but is one of the few RPS venues that has a full menu as well.  Then you can wash it down with a Pabst Blue Ribbon and Jim Beam.

The PBRPRPSCLCS just got the word that team Feed the Pony member Posthumyn has recently become engaged to be married.  She will  soon be known in RPS circles (as well as all social circles) as Mrs. Butterworth.  Until that time she will be known as Mrs. Butterworth Lite (at least when it comes to RPS).

So congrats to Mr. and soon to be Mrs. Butterworth.  Now plan that wedding!

The PBRPRPSCLCS’s oldest home, the Dive, which has hosted on Thursdays every season since the inception of the league in 2006,  has decided to go smoke-free on the 2nd floor starting the end of this week according to the rumor the PBRPRPSCLCS is hearing on the street.

Those who long complained that this venue should be removed from the host rotation due to smokiness will be happy to hear that they are now, rumor has it, free to return to compete on Thursday nights without fear of “the silent killer” (or is that hypertension?).  It also validates one of the PRBPRPSCLCS’s core beliefs that many great things are accomplished through inactivity.

Remember back after the 2008 Championship, when J. Martin Hill and Harper Lee went down to live in, of all places, Gaithersburg Maryland?  Well, good news (especially for them)!  Those two homegrown talents (who are now Mr. J. Martin Hill & Mrs. Harper Lee) have returned to the Philly area and will be back to competing during the 2010 season. 

Our sources are hearing that there will not be a reincarnation of The Ernie Vanderbilt College of Gaming & Wagers, LLC, so if you’re a team you may want to consider offering these free agents a pretty sweet deal.  Unless they go back to the Paper Cut Posse.  That could happen too.

In the street Rock Paper Scissors scene, Ontario Banderas of the Majestic 12 came in, went about his business, turned in his money and left well before the collection was called for.  And he still defeated the Schitzofrenic guy by a count of 87-51.  A good day at the office for Mr. Banderas, except for that whole losing in the second round thing.

A few other items of interest from the Jaunary tournament: A retired player may be coming out of retirement, two long-lost players returned home to embarrassing  first round losses, and many thanks to B-Pac for live tweeting the tournament on behalf of @PhillyRPS.  We’ll tinker with this idea (the Twitter one) a little bit before the season actually starts.

Hi I’m the webmaster.

Over the past week, some kind individuals trying to promote various payday loan scams attempted some internet-based skulduggery on the site. It didn’t work, but it left the database that powers the site in a specific state that we, information technology professionals, call “hosed”. As we had a glorious re-design of the site “kind of in the works” – the PBRPRPSCLCS has been kind enough to let us launch that “work in progress” version instead of spending a lot of time and effort repairing the old version… just to replace it.

The long and the short of it, is there are a number of features that don’t currently work quite right, and I have numerous issues to address over the coming week(s). If you come across something that seems broken (or the big one right now is missing images on a lot of page) assume I am aware of the issue, and trying to get through my “to-do” list as quickly as possible.

That’s right!  Rock Paper Scissors is back at the Dive (947 East Passyunk – 2nd Floor) on

Tuesday February 2nd.  When PBRPRPSCLCS management booked this they thought it was still going to be in January (think “how about that Tuesday” instead of “how about Tuesday, Feb. 2nd”) so this is going to be considered the January tourney. 

Rules are same as always – $3 registration fee and the Street Rock Paper Scissors prize is a bar money to the Dive and you get extra bucks if you buy a Pabst Blue Ribbon & Jim Beam special for $4.  Registration starts at 9 and competition is at 9:30ish.

On another note – if you see a post with a headline and nothing else on the site (or some that have disappeared altogether), that’s been happening lately.  Trying to figure out what the deal is.

It seems some of the recent posts are disappearing (like that one for Mustaches for Kids a few down from here).  The IT staff is working on this situation.  Sorry for any inconvenience.

RPS DVD will be available to rent in the new year from Netflix but we need your help!

We need as many people to add the film to their Netflix queue. The more queues its in the more DVDs they will order from our distributor and the more effort they will put behind it’s distribution. You (and your friends and family) don’t even need to ever actually rent the movie (obviously we’d encourage you to do so because it’s awesome) so even if you’ve seen it please still add it to your queue!
